I believe there r 14 recognized breeds of guinea pigs, & a few more that r not recognized. Guinea pigs r very therapeutic animals, & quite commonly used as such. When I first got my guinea pigs, they were for therapeutic reasons.
You can do lots with guinea pigs. I find the my herd brings out a lot of creativity in me, to make them little play lands & additions to their cage.
Their life span is 5-8 years, but if properly cared for they can go longer.
They r wonderful pets, but alot of time, work, & money. Pet store cages r abusively small, & adequate housing means u have to make a cage. But, it is very easy & inexpensive.

Wow, & I just have to ask. Why so many hamsters? I mean, I love hamsters. but that is soo many. If u can provide proper care & housing for all of these hamsters, u should really open up a hamster rescue.

The most popular guineas r the tortoiseshell, lilac self, rex & dutch. Or preferably just the shorter haired guinea pigs as they r less maintanance. Guinea pigs r great pets & can verbally communicate with us (by making different squeeks for different things)they r friendly & sociable animals, which never bite (they'd rather run away then stand up for themselves). They r great pets, if u really want to have them more than pets then u can show them :) The average life span of a guinea pig is 4-7 yr as they r susceptable to illness if not taken care of properaly (respiratory illnesses, loss of appitiates, or just get too cold) but as long as they r in proper care then they hardly r ever ill. Also guinea pigs need extra vitamin c as they do not produce it, this can be found in any guinea pig brand food. And if u r getting two guineas i recommend u get two females instead or neutering a male (male & female match) or two males together usually fight. good luck!
