l own two guinea pigs. l got them 5 months ago, and since like 4 months ago there has been a pair of mice here. My dad got rid of them (do not worry, we did not have any inhumane traps or anything) and they were replace by two more mice. This has been happening for ages. l think its because they can smell the guinea pig food. Does anyone else you owns guinea pigs or rabbits have this problem? How do you prevent it from happening? How do you deal with the problem?

If you own guinea pigs do unwanted mice come into your house or yard

It is the food. You need to put it in sealed airtight containers that can not be chewed through.

Also, do not spill it all over when you feed them.

You need to keep your used litter in a sealed trashcan away from your house.

yes mice do come when there r guinea pigs r around the house or something.i used to have 2 guinea pigs too & they kept reproducing non stop & i ended up with 50 or 52 guinea pig culture.and we used to keep them in a large cage in the garden & we kept finding mice & their young under the small bowls we kept for the guinea pigs.there is no point in killing the mice.cos they have their own strategy.once u kill a family of mice.more will come to take revenge.(this is not a joke) even if u put mice poison to kill them.some mice r smart enough to just take the poison in their mouth & vomit it onto ur guinea pigs food to poison them.be careful with mice.put ur guinea pigs in a small cage or a glass cage (with holes in it for them to breathe & no access for the mice to enter it) inside the house & kill the mice outside ur house as much as u can..

goodluck i hope it helps :) my dad got rid of my guinea pig farm (in my garden) when we moved out of our house when i was 13 years old.i miss them so much.the guniea pigs i mean.:)

Nope, not so far anyway. I make sure that the area surrounding the cage is spotless and washed down with a 50% vinegar, 50% water solution. As for inside the cage, the only thing that would really attract them would be the fresh produce, which should be chucked out an hour after given.

they will be attracted by the ready food & bedding supply, to prevent them u need to keep the area extremely clean (no shavings, straw or hay blowing about & collecting in corners) no food to be left on the floor or in a contain that can be nibbled through.
And u will need to raise the hutch so there is nowhere under they can hide & also put more wire on the front of the hutch (so it makes the holes too small to get through)

We battled for 2 years with rats & mice in the rabbit hutches & found the only way to discourage them was to do all of the above.
